The Super Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (SuperCDMS) Collaboration operates world-leading experiments to directly detect dark matter interacting with ordinary matter. The SuperCDMS Soudan experiment searched for weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) via their elastic-scattering interactions with nuclei in low-temperature germanium detectors. Enectali Figueroa-Feliciano is interested in finding physics beyond the standard model. We know the standard model of particle physics is not the most fundamental description of nature: it fails to explain various phenomena such as the mass of neutrinos, dark matter, the expansion of the Universe, and gravity. Fermilab scientist Dan Bauer will lead the SuperCDMS collaboration through this upcoming transition as its recently elected spokesperson. He began his three-year term in May, taking over from Blas Cabrera of Stanford University.
